Going Behind-The-Scenes.

TREND: Blog-produced web videos showing behind-the-scenes looks of how products are made have become a powerful marketing tool for brands to enhance their customer’s buying experience.

Question- What can you do to advertise your brand and products when the economy has all but decimated your advertising budget- that is, if you even had one to begin with? Well, one clever solution that I have been seeing lately, much to my pleasure, are blog-produced web videos that go behind-the-scenes of brands to showcase the quality, authenticity, and most of all, the love and care that goes into producing its products. Here’s my favorite video to date on Billykirk, makers of some pretty creative leather goods.

I believe it was Paco Underhill, author of Why We Buy, The Science of Shopping (?) who said that the more educated a customer is on a product, the more likely he/she is to buy it versus a competitive product that he knows nothing about. This method of advertising not only educates the customer, it builds trust and enhances the user experience by drawing up an image of these two geeky looking brothers in a rustic workshop slaving away over the details of their product every time you hear the name “Billykirk”. Here are a few more examples.

Here’s a slightly different take on the same concept. At the end of the video these guys, Jesse Thorn and Adam Lisagor, throw in a little Q&A session answering questions about fashion and clothing sent in by their readers via none other than Twitter. Check it out.
